ALAN KO

Hi, I’m Alan Ko, a first-year Journalism major at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I’m working toward a career in sports media, where I can combine reporting, photography, and storytelling to cover the games and people that shape the culture.

I realized during my sophomore year of high school that I wouldn’t be playing sports at the next level, but I still wanted to be involved in the sport. That’s when I picked up a camera. Since then, I’ve photographed everything from high school football to NFL training camps and written stories that go beyond the scoreboard.

While sports are a big part of what I do, my work also explores the people, issues, and moments that shape our communities. From campus protests to local features, I’ve covered stories that matter to students, athletes, and everyday readers alike.

Being a first-generation American, I’ve always felt the pressure to make the most of every opportunity. My parents gave up a lot so I could have this path, and I carry that with me in everything I do. It’s part of why I take this work seriously. Telling real stories, especially the ones people don’t always notice, is something I care about.
